the last sunig7′s
SMU Rugby has always been a team made up of outstanding individuals on and off the pitch. Through the years and seasons, lady luck have always been on our side when we won the 15s and 7s. With some trainings and never a team run till the competition itself, we were like Chelsea and most of the time going into the transfer market and getting “superstars” – some are great signings but some are just ungrateful bastard that do not even show. But life is such.
With some bad, really bad, results from the recent seasons, the SMU rugby team must win the up and coming SUNIG 7′s to establish Team Excellence or else have and will become “Special Interest” Group. This is what the rugby team has become and will become if we do not train and play together as a team. We are not going to be Chelsea with many superstars but Man Utd, a team that worked together to become the Champion for the 19th time toppling Liverpool’s reins on the top.
SMU Rugby team has started training months before the competition, a shock but a necessity if we want to have any glimmer of hope to win the 7′s crown back in SUNIG. The 12-14 players are putting the mileage on the field and in the gym. It is encouraging to see that the 12-14 players are getting onto the same page and becoming more of a team and playing to our structure and patterns. Heaps of pressure and conflicting characters on and in the team but we have a common goal. Will we achieve that goal, we will see. With the SMU rugby team coming a long way and thanks to it, I am in SMU so this will be my last chance to bring the team together and dawn the SMU jersey for my last Sunig 7’s. To do our best and achieve our goal.
Next weekend will be our warmup tournament, will we be up for it?
Worry about our character & not our reputation, because our character is who we are, & our reputation is only what people think of us.
